Advocacy

ERIO works closely with European institutions to promote the rights of Roma communities in Europe. This work is reflected in a number of advocacy documents produced by ERIO to raise awareness and to improve the accountability of national and EU public officials, but also in the EU documents related to Roma, where the effectiveness of ERIO's work can be seen.
What's new?

Latest ERIO advocacy paper addresses Recommendations to the Portuguese EU Presidency, with focus on the fields of education, intercultural dialogue, health, housing, and poverty:

"With regards to social policies, the EU Portuguese Presidency considers the need to address the feminisation of poverty as a priority. The majority of Roma communities throughout European countries are living in poverty, but of these, the most vulnerable group are Roma women and children. Roma women confront the biggest barriers in access to adequate education and employment..."

In addition, the vulnerability of Roma refugees from Kosovo remains central in ERIO's concerns.
